The BIG Toe

Okay so here is the foot update...along with some very exciting pictures for those inquiring minds! The above picture is how "the foot" has been dressed since Tuesday when I had the surgery. The purple writing is where the Dr branded me with his initials. I guess he wanted to make sure that he sliced and diced the correct foot. Don't worry about that red on the big toe, that is just the beta dine coming through that the Dr poured all over the foot.
You will see here in the photo above a closer look at the Dr's initials. My foot was wrapped so tight that I had to keep wiggling my toes to make sure I could still feel them!
Poor peter - I have cut two of his socks in half so that I could keep my bandages all clean and provide a little extra protection for the incision. Wednesday night my foot had a lot of pain. I spent the night on the couch almost in tears dozing in and out of sleep. I really didn't want to take the prescription pain killers because they make me sick. Last night it hurt gain so I took half a pain killer and that really helped so much. Meanwhile, I have little Miss. Erika who finds it hysterical to chase after Mommy's foot and bang on it! Is she kidding me??
Today I went back to the podiatrist and he removed the heavy duty bandages and took some x-rays to see how things are healing in there. He said my foot is doing great and I couldn't ask for anything more from it! He also told me that the foot had a lot of arthritis in there when he did the actual surgery. The picture above shows how the foot will remain for the next two weeks till I get the stitches removed. Again the Dr. was telling me how chatty I was going into surgery and then in the recovery room.Starting today he had me put the foot in a wide sneaker and he wants me to start walking and moving the big toe up and down (which is painful) and also driving a little at a time. Oh my goodness...that's quick but i am doing well. My foot feels pretty good in the sneaker just very itchy. I am very happy with how the recovery is going so far and am enjoying being more involved with Erika again.

Michelle has been a "God send" the entire week. Lets see she cared for Erika early in the morning till late evening Monday - Thursday, brought over the most incredible meals every night and has been such a caring support. Tuesday night was a roast pork, mashed potatoes & carrots, Wednesday was baked ziti and pineapple angel food cake, and last night was these amazing pork chops, stuffing and green beans. Now if you aren't salivating after reading that...you never will! Michelle is such an awesome friend and I am beyond lucky to have her in my life.
