Dear Opa,
One year ago today you left this earth and went to heaven. My heart has been broken even since that day. The connection and love that you and I shared could never be duplicated and I will miss you always. I think about you everyday and remember all the fun we had together. Erika knows you too because you talked to her while she was in my belly and tickled her! I look at her and just know for sure in my heart that you are in her. I see you in her eyes and feel you in her hug. I remember how you would make the sound of a hug and then a kiss at the end of each phone conversation that we had. Every birthday you would call me first thing in the morning and sing to me. You truly filled my world with sunshine. I remember how happy you were for me when I told you I was getting married and then when I was pregnant with Erika...your eyes lit up with tears and you said "are you really?" Then we danced to "Unforgettable" at my wedding and Opa you truly are UNFORGETTABLE. I hold a piece of you inside my heart and my spirit everyday. I feel so lucky that I was able to have the relationship that I had with you because many people go through life never experiencing such a close and loving relationship. And to add to that, you and I always knew how much we loved each other because we made it known to each other, no regrets. I know you are with Oma now and both of you are happy but Opa, what I wouldn't give to see you hold Erika and to hold you in my arms again. You had plans on being in the delivery room with Peter and that would have been amazing but it never happened. Erika was conceived quickly for you because I wanted you to have her for awhile. I am glad that you knew she was my gift for you because you were truly a gift for me. Opa I love you and miss you so very very much.

My Poem For Opa
You have been there for me since I was small,
And you carried me when I could only crawl.
When I got older we had so much fun,
You would take me to the park in the sun.
From you I learned the chicken dance,
And you fed me so many goodies I needed bigger pants!
We have always stayed so close to each others heart,
In my life you were the biggest part.
It seems to me that you always knew how to show you care,
Whatever I needed, you were always there.
So Opa, I hope you can see,
Just how special you will always be to me.
I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH OPA!

Through the tears I will type....Heidi, I know how much Opa meant to you and for you to share this with everyone is special, just like Opa was. He is definitely watching over you and making sure you have a wonderful life that he would want you to have. Erika never met him but she will always know him through you.
