The "tummy ache" was getting worse and worse and as I watched two hours pass by I starting thinking this must be more than a tummy ache! Yup...contractions. BAD ONES! Peter's cat sat there with me as I cried through each one for those two hours. I will NEVER forget that.
Finally as I noticed that the pain was getting closer and closer I figured I better go get Peter. I remember thinking "well if this isn't labor, then something else is wrong because I am in PAIN!" I went up to our room to get Peter and I can clearly remember what I said to him "I think I am having your kid today." LOL And then off to the hospital we went!
Of course Erika's delivery had to be a hassle. Knowing my body, it wouldn't have it any other way. After pushing for 5 hours and being in the most pain I have ever experienced in my life...the doctor decided to do a c-section. At that point I was glad because I was so beat and worn out I didn't think I could do it any more! Turns out my birth canal is too small for a baby to come out without a severe struggle. If there are future children, they will be c-sections too.
So at 5:38 pm Erika came to join us in this crazy world! She was 6 pounds 6 ounces and in my opinion absolutely beautiful! 19 inches long. What an incredible feeling to know at that moment I finally had my baby that I have always wanted. I was so excited. The day I got married and the birth of Erika are the two best days of my life. Nothing can top that!
I guess the rest is history. Here are some pics from the very beginning. Erika's first day of life.
And here we are the happy family just minutes after Erika joined us. This is one of my favorite pictures because even as sick as I was feeling, it reminds me of the incredible feeling I had knowing that she was mine.
My little tiny Baby Erika! Looking at this picture, I remember how great she smelled. I would just sit there and stare at her.
Yup, I was wiped out, but in LOVE!
